In my previous posts, I spoke about the key features of the hc1 Academy and the benefits it offers to our clients. We think we have a pretty good thing going here, and we do, but we’re not really satisfied with pretty good. Pretty good is ok, but frankly, it’s also kind of boring. We’re not quite content with resting on our laurels. So with that in mind, you won’t be surprised if I tell you that since the launch of hc1 Academy back in October of 2012 (seems like ancient history, right?), we’ve made a few changes to our training process. We’ve identified a few new best practices thanks to the input of our growing user base, and have made immediate changes for the betterment of the service.

We’ve redefined our process to ensure that our users get the best possible training on our lab management tools. It’s a fine line to walk between completely tailored training and providing guidance that ensures that our clients will get what they need. So while all the options are still available, we’ve added some structure to the process. All the same components come into play, but now we have some advice for you on how to make the best possible use of them.

Think of it as the hc1 Academy Way. It’s a clearer path to success that ensures each user is able to use to the fullest and as a result, your business, no matter how large, can begin to move with the agile ease of a small start-up.

We train your team in four groups:

  1. 1. System Administrators
  2. 2. Pilot
  3. 3. Users
  4. 4. Business Intelligence & DDC


Each group follows a simple two-step process:

  1. 1. hc1 Academy
  2. 2. Live training (via GoToMeeting or in-person)


Why this order and why the two-step process for each group?

We train your system administrators first because they will be shaping the lab management solution and playing an important role in its implementation. Next comes a pilot group of users from various disciplines. These users are your internal advocates for other users, and they will help you to shape your workflows before rolling out the solution to the masses. These users become your advisors, or your “super users.” Once the pilot group is up-to-speed and has helped you to refine the solution, the pilot group leads your internal end-user training. This doesn’t happen without our support, and I’ll go into greater detail on what resources are offered for your use in a later blog post. Finally, it’s time to get your Business Intelligence report writers (hc1 Elite) up to expert status with intensive courses on report building and customization.

We also recommend that all users complete their assigned hc1 Academy learning modules prior to their live training, so that they have an opportunity to enter the live training with a basic understanding of the lab CRM and Healthcare Business Intelligence system and are primed and ready to ask lots of questions. We’d rather work with your team on use cases than talk at them for a couple of hours and hope some of what we’ve said sinks in.
