2023 had hc1 experts traveling throughout the country, meeting current and potential clients face-to-face at conferences and annual meetings. We also enjoyed the good fortune of extended opportunities to present during several of the conferences and collaborate with fellow lab professionals to share compelling presentations.
We launched the year of events by traveling down to N’awlins for the Executive War College (EWC), April 24-27. We were thrilled that hc1 Chairman and CEO Brad Bostic was welcomed to the main stage to give a captivating presentation, “Generating Value by Identifying Risk Signals in Longitudinal Lab Data: Opportunities in Big Data with Payers, Physicians, Pharma, and Bioresearch,” which was very well received.
Additionally, hc1 Executive Director of Client Success Jennifer Maxwell and COO System Lab, MultiCare Health System, Zac Zahara co-presented the Master Class, “Leveraging Real-Time Operational Lab Data Across 20 Hospitals to Track Workflow, Staff Productivity, and Manage How Physician Clients Benefit from Lab Testing.” This session provided insight into how MultiCare selected a tool that could take information from disparate systems into one, making it actionable and ensuring the right people were using it for key decision-making processes.

With just enough time to catch her breath, Maxwell, together with Brandy Gunsolus, DCLS, MLS(ASCP)CM, doctor of clinical laboratory science, Augusta University Medical Center Department of Pathology, and Brooke Whitaker, DCLS, MLS(ASCP)CM, manager, clinical laboratory, Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, connected at ASCLS, AGT & SAFMLS Joint Annual Meeting (LabJAM) in Pittsburgh, PA, June 26-30, 2023 and presented a session about how Augusta University Health Laboratory has used a robust cloud platform to unlock real-time, actionable insights using the lab's data.

A month later, our hc1 road team was off to Anaheim, CA, where hc1 Insights Director, High Value Care, Adam Sajewich, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) Area Principal, Solution Management and Strategy for Healthcare and Life Sciences (HCLS) Transformation, Todd C. Sharp, collaborated and presented a session titled, “How Unlocking the Value of Your Lab Data Can Help Revolutionize Healthcare,” at the AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo, July 23-27, 2023.
This was a unique opportunity for hc1 to showcase that through partnerships with companies like AWS, hc1 has unlocked patient-centric clinical insights to address challenges in healthcare delivery. With tools available today, labs have gained visibility into overall laboratory performance and extended their capabilities to optimize operations, proactively engage with their customers and inform testing and treatment decisions.
Sajewich seized the opportunity to travel to Philadelphia to attend Future Labs Live USA, October 4-5, to present “How Leveraging Your Lab Data Can Help Revolutionize Healthcare” to a new audience, emphasizing that an estimated 80% of medical data collected today does not benefit patient care after the encounter. He noted it’s time to put that valuable data to use and that labs are in the ideal position to lead the charge because of the amount and type of data in their care.
On September 26, our team headed up to Chicago for another maiden voyage event for hc1, Mayo Clinic Laboratories’ Leveraging the Laboratory. The windy city provided an excellent opportunity for hc1 experts to connect with lab leaders to discuss how they might leverage hc1 to reach their outreach goals. We are certain they spoke about the Five Ways to Grow your Outreach Lab Business that Maxwell recently shared in an hc1 blog post.

Finally, hc1 Product Manager Tawni Reller, MA, BS (MLS, ASCP) kicked off a virtual event hosted by The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, Washington chapter, presenting "How to Reduce Costs and Improve Patient Care with Real-Time Lab Testing Insights" at the Virtual Northwest Medical Lab Symposium Symposium on October 26.
Winding out 2023, we are giving our luggage a rest and staying closer to home by hosting a live, 30-minute webinar, Doing More With Less, on Thursday, November 2, at 11:30 a.m. EST. Sajewich and fellow hc1 Director, High Value Care, Dawn Seymour will share how hc1 has been helping labs leverage their data to overcome the challenges that stand in the way of meeting their goals. They will also preview the upcoming hc1 solution to help labs proactively optimize staffing levels through AI-powered insights. You can register to attend this webinar here. If you cannot attend, register anyway and we’ll send you a link following the webinar for on-demand access for you to watch at your convenience.
